Rooftop solar installations at TOD’S headquarters and manufacturing facility in Italy’s Marche region have reduced CO2 emissions by approximately 126 tons from April to December 2023
SolarEdge " NASDAQ: SEDG, a global leader in smart energy technologies, today announced that Italian luxury fashion house TOD’S has expanded its rooftop solar installations with SolarEdge systems at its headquarters and manufacturing facility in Italy’s Marche region, totaling 740 kWp.
Thanks to self-consumption solar energy, the rooftop solar installations at TOD'S headquarters and
manufacturing plant supply 78% of daily energy consumption, thus reducing CO2 emissions by around 126 tonnes location-based calculation method from April to December 2023.
These installations support the commitments of the famous Italian luxury house to adopt a sustainable and responsible approach, building on the success of the first SolarEdge rooftop solar installation, which was commissioned in 2017 at another production site in Arquata del Tronto to help the region's economic recovery following an earthquake.
The company also recently launched a new solar installation at its Montecosaro site, with a capacity of 106 kWp. Simona Cattaneo, CEO of TOD'S Group, said: "The expansion of TOD'S rooftop solar installations underlines our commitment to sustainability and is part of our decarbonisation strategy. By producing and consuming renewable solar energy, we reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and mitigate the economic impact of fluctuations in the electricity market, while making the best use of our buildings to produce the energy we need." Tasked by TOD'S to produce as much energy as possible from the available space on the headquarters' roof, Italian renewable energy system installer SARI 2030 decided to go beyond a conventional solar installation by installing power optimisers. These are small boxes placed under each solar panel to maximize energy production and, most importantly, they isolate energy loss due to shading or fouling, for example, to a single pair of panels. This technological innovation makes it possible to bypass the limitations of traditional solar installations where the least efficient panel affects the productivity of
the entire panel chain. For companies like TOD'S, it is crucial that the solar energy production is fully optimized in all conditions in order to achieve the maximum savings on the energy bill. Another important requirement for TOD'S was to ensure that the safety of the buildings and employees was in no way compromised by the photovoltaic installation. This is one of the other interests of power optimizers that offer advanced safety capabilities to
reduce electrical risks. Thanks to the remote monitoring of the performance and potential failures of each solar panel, they can be identified quickly, for faster and more efficient diagnosis and maintenance. In the event of a suspected problem, the voltage of the solar installation can be brought back to a safe voltage level in a few minutes, to allow safe access to the roof and facilitate the intervention of the fire brigade in the event of force majeure.
Gabriele Frontoni, CEO of SARI 2030, explains: “As a high-quality craft brand, TOD’S knows the importance of delivering value over the long term. Working with TOD’S is both a challenge and a source of inspiration, as the company needs the highest efficiency, performance and safety to achieve its goals. So, when we built TOD’S’ first solar plant in Arquata del Tronto, we recommended SolarEdge technology to meet the requirements of maximum energy production, real-time monitoring of each panel and the strictest safety standards on the market. Since SolarEdge technology has met all these criteria for several years, we naturally recommended it to design the solar installation on the TOD’S headquarters and manufacturing plant. And this is not the first time that a company has had such requirements. »
Christian Carraro, Managing Director Europe for SolarEdge, concludes: “TOD’S’ solar expansion reflects the growing trend of companies adopting solar energy to meet their sustainability and greenhouse gas reduction goals. Companies also need a strong business case to support these ESG initiatives and this is where SolarEdge technology excels – producing more energy for a faster return on investment, with an enhanced security offering. That’s why SolarEdge technology is on the roofs of more than 50% of Fortune 100 companies.”
